Tall case brass dial clock, ca. 1750-1755.

Walnut tall-case clock. The hood has a molded broken-scroll pediment terminating in carved pinwheels with three urn-and-spire finials on fluted plinths, turned three-quarter columns at the front corners, turned quarter columns at the rear corners, and a glazed door with square opening. Waist with cove molding at the top and a case door with an astragal top. Base with cove and ovolo moldings at the top, ogee moldings at the bottom, and shallow arches at the front and sides of the baseboard. Composite brass dial with applied chapter ring with roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals and applied cast ornament in the spandrels. Inside the chapter ring there is a calendar aperture. The chapter ring is signed "David Rittenhouse." Thirty hour movement.
